Project Description
The Centre for Indigenous Environmental Resources is working with St Theresa Point First Nation, and project partners, to implement the Fluorescent Lamps Pilot Project. The goal of this pilot project is to support safe disposal practices for compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL bulbs) and tubes, and promote mercury-free lamps. The program builds on existing recycling programs and will result in a proven methodology for the safe collection and storage of fluorescent lamps, and an efficient transportation or backhaul strategy for materials to be recycled, that can be replicated in other remote and northern Indigenous communities.
